~ Stand or Flight ~
The Charolais cattle we drove for home,
Echoing on the wind; “Yap! Yap!”
The farmer’s dogs had begun to bark,
Up yonder, at the farmyard gate,
Steers turned, the fear was in their face,
With roar and rage the ground began to quake,
Elba calmly turned, and ordered me to stand,
Challenging to joust with butting heads and horn,
Passing close, the air became full of flight,
He with his fifty year and I a mere one,
Glanced across as if to say, “Well done!”
Give them time for passions to cool,
Let them graze and be free awhile,
Take tea, and after we’ll try again.
